Chocolate Mousse Recipe
This chocolate mousse recipe does not use raw eggs like many chocolate mousse recipes do. Raw eggs should not ever be consumed because they frequently contain salmonella bacteria. This recipe does use egg yolks that are cooked to avoid the possibility of getting sick from salmonella poisoning.
Chocolate Mouse Ingredients
4 egg yolks
1/2 cup of sugar
1 cup of cream
1 cup of semi sweet chocolate chips
1 1/2 cup of whipped cream
Step 1 Beat the eggs with an electric mixer in a small mixing bow for 3 minutes. Gradually add the sugar while beating the eggs.
Step 2 Heat the heavy cream over low heat in a sauce pan.
Step 3 Add the egg yolk mixture once the cream in the sauce pan is warm. Cook over low heat for 5 minutes, stirring constantly to avoid sticking.
Step 4 Add the chocolate chips and stir until melted.
Step 5 Remove the sauce pan from the heat and allow to cool completely.
Step 6 Beat 1 1/2 cups of heavy cream in a large mixing bowl until stiff. Fold in the contents of the saucepan until incorporated.
Step 7 Place in serving dishes and cool in the refrigerator for 2 hours.
Step 8 Garnish with a spoonful of whipped cream on top.
Other topping ideas include strawberries, raspberries, or mint.
